Students visit the site of Kenilworth Rail Station

Nearly 50 students from the University of Warwick, studying Civil Engineering attended the site of Kenilworth Station on Tuesday 14 March.

Over the afternoon two groups were provided with a presentation from Jodie Clarke from SLC Rail about the Station, including the design, facilities and destinations of the new station before walking around the site with Eunan O’Kane and Gary Burt from GRAHAM Construction. The students were shown the works currently completed including the station and platform foundations and the sewer diversion.

After the tour, Dr Gary Fowmers (Associate Professor – Geotechnical Engineering) at the School of Engineering for the University of Warwick said, “The School of Engineering would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at the GRAHAM Site for providing the opportunity for sixty of our undergraduate Civil Engineering students to attend their Kenilworth Station project. These practical site visits are invaluable for the students to see theory being put into practice, and this project was of particular benefit as it introduced some of the logistical challenges of working in a residential area and the importance of working with multiple stakeholders, especially the local community.”
